GMAT Testing Accommodations in Westlake Village

Ages: All ages (Children, Adolescents, and Adults) Documentation provided Board-ready report

Navigating the GMAT can be a high-pressure experience, but for individuals with documented disabilities, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) provides essential accommodations to ensure a level playing field. At Lifespan Center for Family Psychological Services in Westlake Village, we specialize in providing the comprehensive diagnostic testing and clinical documentation required to secure the support you need, whether it's extended testing time, additional breaks, or a private environment. Our clinical team is dedicated to helping you overcome barriers and showcase your true academic potential.

About gmat accommodations

GMAT accommodations are modifications to the standard testing environment or format designed to support test-takers with physical or mental impairments. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), these adjustments are intended to mitigate the impact of a disability, allowing candidates to demonstrate their true academic potential rather than being limited by their condition. Eligibility is not based solely on a diagnosis but on the demonstration of "substantial limitation" in major life activities compared to the general population.

Common categories for accommodation include Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning and cognitive disorders like dyslexia, psychological conditions such as anxiety and depression, and physical or sensory disabilities. Documentation must be current, typically within three years for learning and psychological conditions, and must provide a clear rationale for each requested adjustment. These accommodations can include 50% or 100% additional testing time, extended rest breaks, the use of medical devices, or a separate testing room. Because the GMAT is a computer-adaptive test, these supports are often critical for maintaining focus and managing cognitive load effectively. By securing these accommodations, candidates can approach the exam with the confidence that their scores will reflect their abilities, not their disability.

What we evaluate

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Learning and Cognitive Disorders (e.g., Dyslexia, Dyscalculia)
  • Psychological Disabilities (e.g., Anxiety, Depression)
  • Physical and Systemic Disabilities
  • Sensory Disabilities (Vision and Hearing impairments)
  • Executive Functioning deficits

Our process

At Lifespan CFPS, we bridge the gap between a clinical diagnosis and the rigorous documentation requirements set forth by the GMAC. Our specialized team in Westlake Village understands that a simple doctor's note is insufficient for high-stakes standardized tests. We provide a robust assessment process designed to meet the specific criteria of the GMAT Supplement for Test Takers with Disabilities.

This begins with a thorough clinical intake where we review your academic and medical history, exploring how your condition has historically impacted your performance. We then conduct targeted diagnostic testing to measure cognitive functions such as processing speed, memory, and executive functioning. This objective data is crucial, as GMAC requires evidence of functional impairment across various settings, not just in a testing environment.

Beyond testing, our clinicians draft a detailed clinical rationale for your requested accommodations, directly linking our findings to the specific needs of the GMAT format. We also review your existing records, such as prior IEPs, 504 plans, or accommodations from other standardized tests, to build a cohesive and persuasive case. We recognize that the application process can be daunting, so we offer advocacy and guidance to help you navigate deadlines and submission requirements. Additionally, because we accept most insurance plans, we make high-quality diagnostic services accessible to a broader range of students and professionals. Our goal is to empower you to enter the testing center with every resource available to you, ensuring your graduate school journey begins on equitable ground.

What to expect

The evaluation process at Lifespan involves three primary components. First, you will participate in a Clinical Intake, a comprehensive interview where a clinician reviews your mental health history and current functional challenges. Next is the Diagnostic Testing phase, which involves a series of standardized assessments to evaluate cognitive strengths and weaknesses, such as attention, memory, and information processing. Finally, we conduct a Documentation Review, where we analyze your previous academic and medical records. This holistic approach ensures we capture the full scope of your needs for the GMAC application.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start the process for GMAT accommodations?
You should begin the process at least two to three months before your desired test date. The GMAC review process can take up to 30 business days, and you must receive approval before you are allowed to schedule an accommodated testing appointment.
Will my score report show that I used accommodations?
No. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), your GMAT score report will not indicate that you received accommodations. Admissions committees will see only your scores, ensuring your privacy and a fair review of your application.
Is a prior diagnosis of ADHD or a learning disorder enough to qualify?
A diagnosis alone is not enough. You must provide objective evidence (such as diagnostic testing) that demonstrates a "substantial limitation" in current major life activities compared to the general population, as well as a rationale for why each specific accommodation is necessary.
Can Lifespan help if I have been denied accommodations in the past?
Yes. Our clinicians can review your previous application and any feedback from the testing body to conduct additional diagnostic testing or provide a more robust clinical rationale to support a reapplication or appeal.
