Psychological Testing and Evaluation in Westlake Village
Lifespan provides comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological testing for ADHD, autism, learning disorders, cognitive and academic functioning, and pre-surgical clearance. Every evaluation produces a clear diagnosis, an integrated written report, and a personalized roadmap of next steps for school, work, and treatment.
Why families and adults choose Lifespan
Psychological testing answers the questions that talk therapy and pediatrician visits often cannot: Is this ADHD or is it anxiety? Is my child gifted, twice-exceptional, or struggling with a specific learning disorder? Why do I keep hitting the same wall at work or in relationships? Our team of licensed Clinical Psychologists and Neuropsychologists uses gold-standard assessments to give you a clinically rigorous answer and a plan you can act on.
Unlike standalone testing mills, Lifespan integrates evaluation and ongoing care under one roof. The same practice that diagnoses you or your child can also provide therapy, coordinate with schools, write accommodation letters, and follow up over time. That continuity is rare, and it is one of the reasons families across the Conejo Valley, San Fernando Valley, and greater Los Angeles drive to our Westlake Village office.
What we evaluate
ADHD evaluations
Comprehensive ADHD assessment for children, teens, and adults. Differentiates ADHD from anxiety, depression, learning disorders, and trauma, with separate scales for inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity subtypes.
Autism assessment
Diagnostic evaluation for autism spectrum disorder in children, teens, and adults, using validated tools such as the ADOS-2 and ADI-R alongside cognitive and adaptive measures.
Learning disorder testing
Identifies dyslexia (reading), dysgraphia (written expression), and dyscalculia (math). Includes academic achievement testing benchmarked against age and grade peers.
504 and IEP support
Evaluation reports written specifically to support 504 plans and Individualized Education Programs. We can also attend school meetings and prepare accommodation letters.
Cognitive and academic testing
Full-scale IQ, working memory, processing speed, and academic achievement assessment using the WISC-V, WAIS-IV, WIAT-4, and WJ-IV.
Pre-surgical evaluations
Psychological clearance for bariatric surgery, spinal cord stimulator implantation, and other procedures requiring behavioral health clearance. Typically a single session with a focused report.
Giftedness assessment
For children whose abilities or twice-exceptional profile may not be captured by school screening. Reports designed for GATE and private school admissions.
Diagnostic clarification
For complex or conflicting presentations. We integrate cognitive, emotional, and personality data to clarify whether symptoms reflect anxiety, mood, trauma, ADHD, autism, or a combination.
Common signs that testing may help
- Persistent difficulty with attention, focus, or concentration at school, work, or home
- Academic struggles despite significant effort or high intelligence
- Unexplained challenges with memory, reading, writing, or learning new material
- Questions about a possible diagnosis of ADHD, autism, or a specific learning disorder
- Conflicting mental health symptoms that have not been clarified by therapy alone
- Social or emotional difficulties that interfere with daily functioning
- A desire to identify giftedness or twice-exceptional profiles
- Need for documentation to access school accommodations, IEP, 504, or workplace accommodations
- Pre-surgical psychological clearance required by a surgeon or insurance
- Adults who suspect a missed childhood diagnosis and want answers
The Lifespan testing process
Every evaluation at Lifespan follows a structured four-phase process. Most clients complete the full process in two to four weeks from intake to feedback.
Clinical intake
A 60 to 90 minute interview to gather your full history, the referral question, school or work records, and any prior evaluations. For children, both parents are encouraged to attend. We review your concerns in depth and design a testing plan tailored to the question at hand.
Testing sessions
One to three sessions of two to three hours each, depending on the battery. Standardized assessments are administered in a quiet, supportive environment with built-in breaks. We also collect rating scales from parents, teachers, partners, or coworkers when relevant.
Scoring, integration, and report writing
Our clinicians score every test, integrate the data with your history and collateral information, and write a comprehensive report. Standard turnaround is two to three weeks from your final testing session. Reports include diagnostic conclusions, score profiles, narrative interpretation, and specific recommendations.
Feedback session
A 60-minute meeting to walk through the report, answer questions, and discuss the recommended next steps. For children, this includes parent guidance for school advocacy. Because Lifespan also offers therapy, the transition into treatment is seamless when indicated.
Children, teens, and adults: what to expect
For children
Testing for children is paced for attention and engagement, with built-in breaks and snacks. Parents complete history forms and rating scales, and teachers are asked to contribute observations when relevant. Reports include grade-appropriate accommodation language for 504, IEP, and private school use, and we can attend school meetings on request.
For teenagers
Adolescent testing balances rigor with developmental sensitivity. We address common concerns including ADHD, learning differences, anxiety, depression, and identity. For high school students, we also provide documentation for SAT, ACT, AP, and college accommodation requests.
For adults
Many of our adult clients suspect a missed childhood diagnosis. Adult evaluations are streamlined for working professionals, often completed in two visits with telehealth options for portions of the process. Reports support workplace accommodation, graduate school documentation, and treatment planning.
What you receive at the end
- A comprehensive integrated written report, typically 15 to 30 pages
- Clear diagnostic conclusions with DSM-5-TR and ICD-10 codes
- Score tables with percentile ranks and clinical interpretation
- Specific, actionable recommendations for school, work, home, and therapy
- A 60-minute feedback session to walk through results
- Accommodation language ready for 504, IEP, college disability services, or HR
- A signed letter or completed forms if your school, employer, or insurance requires them
- The option to share the report directly with your physician, therapist, or school
Fees and insurance
Comprehensive psychological evaluations at Lifespan range from $2,500 to $6,000 for self-pay clients, depending on the referral question, battery complexity, and report depth. Most clients use in-network insurance benefits, which significantly reduces out-of-pocket cost.
We are in-network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Health Net, MHN, Medicare, Optum, Tricare, TriWest, and UnitedHealthcare. For out-of-network clients, we provide complete superbills for PPO reimbursement. See our full fees and insurance page for detailed CPT codes, rates, and the benefits verification form.
Considering private pay for testing?
Many testing clients choose private pay because it is faster and more flexible. With private pay you avoid:
- Wait times for benefits verification and pre-authorization
- Insurance limits on testing hours or report scope
- The risk of post-service denial and surprise out-of-pocket charges
- A diagnostic code on your permanent insurance record
